Advantages of Laptops Over Tablet Computers

Advantages of Laptops Over Tablet Computers

Tablet computers such as Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab continue to get increasingly popular. Being user-friendly and compact, these gadgets keep are gainng popularity with young people and adults alike, developing into a kind of new fad and necessity. Many people have shifted to using this as a personal computer, leaving their laptops to rest at home.
There are still lots of users, however, who think that laptops are still the best when it comes to mobile computers. If you’re thinking of jumping in on the tablet bandwagon but are unsure whether this could function as a second laptop, read on. Below are some of the advantages you’ll get if you decide to get a laptop computer.
Storage capacity.
If you’ll be using the tablet for storage–if you’re planning on having plenty of music, movies, documents, and programs–you’ll still be better off with a laptop. The largest drive available on tablet computers today is  only 64GB, and unlike laptops, you cannot simply add a hard drive in them. Laptops can easily be upgraded if you want to enhance the performance (improvements like increasing the hard disk space or the RAM, for instance), so in terms of storage capacity, laptops are more promising
Flexible software.
Unlike tablets, laptops have the ability to run any operating systems or software. Tablets could handle basic tasks but they are not yet that efficient in terms of applications because operating systems such as Android and iOs are system-specific, which means your app choices will be limited.
CD / DVD Feature.
Tablet computers still do not have the technology for CDs and DVDs (playing, copying, burning). This will surely come out in the future, but right now, laptops are still definitely ahead in this aspect, so if you’ll be needing these for watching movies or backups, laptops are the gadgets to deliver.
Tactile function.
The touch interface is one of the things why many people still opt for laptops. While tablets have the touch screen technology of on-screen sensors that allow you to type and navigate, the tactile aspect of laptop keyboards are still preferred by many, especially those who need to type long texts. It is already possible to add keyboards to tablets, but this will mean that you’ll have more stuff to carry and connect.
External connections / ports.
Aside from the CD/DVD function, most laptops also have many connectors where you can link your external devices like audio connectors, USB ports, and an outlet for ethernet. Tablets, on the other hand, rely mostly on connections like WiFi and 3G so independent devices or connections will be limited. If you always need to transfer or store files, a laptop will be more convenient.
Whether you’re using it for business or personal use, you should evaluate your needs carefully before buying so you’ll be able to make the most out of your new gadget. Laptops and tablets each have their own strengths, and it just depends on the user to  see which gadget will be more appropriate for their activities. Deciding whether to get a laptop or a tablet computer could be confusing, but these pointers should help you narrow things down.
